DHMS Baseball Tryouts

Tryouts for the DHMS baseball program will be held Saturday, December 5, from 11:00am-1:00 pm at John Devore Field at Druid Hills Middle School.

The Druid Hills Middle School baseball program was established by the Druid Hills High School Dugout Club several years ago to create a feeder program for the Druid Hills High School baseball program. Baseball is not sponsored by the DeKalb County School System at the middle school level, so each player must pay $300 to participate. The team plays in the Druid Hills Youth Sports Middle School League at Medlock Park in Decatur and practices at John Devore Field at DHMS, home of our Varsity and JV programs. Other middle schools that participate in the league include Henderson, Inman, Paideia, Renfroe, and Tucker. DHYS also runs one or two in-park teams in the league to provide an opportunity for players not selected for their school teams to participate. Over the past couple years, DHYS has partnered with Dunwoody Senior Baseball to allow teams to play crossover games with their middle school league.

All 6th, 7th, and 8th graders attending DHMS are eligible to tryout for the middle school team, provided they live within the Druid Hills cluster attendance boundaries. The only exceptions to this are middle schoolers that attend private school or are home schooled but live in the Druid Hills cluster attendance boundaries and are planning on attending Druid Hills High School. If a student attends DHMS but lives out of the cluster, he or she should try out for the middle school program in the attendance zone in which the student lives.

Practices will begin the week following tryouts. Once the season begins in January, there are usually 2 games per week and 1-2 practices per week. Games begin mid-January and playoffs conclude the week before Spring Break.

With baseball not being a sport sponsored by the DeKalb County School System at the middle school level, the DHHS Dugout Club must charge a player fee to cover costs associated with running the middle school team (league registration, equipment, uniforms, practice facility use, end of year awards and banquet, etc.). This fee is due in full at the time of tryouts. If the player is not selected for the team the check will be immediately returned or destroyed.
